Uprooting your family for work...
Posted by By: Dr. Laura Berman on June 12 2018
Dr. Berman- My husband and I have been together for 9 years. We have 3 children together and have made a lovely life for ourselves. We have a nice home and can do most of what we want in life. I work part time and do well. He is now the bread winner. We have been settled in our home for the past 4 years and literally 2 weeks ago he told me that he was tired of his job and wanted to take a new position that he has had no experience in- and move us to New Jersey. He had to give the company a decision and so I said I would support him, but I’m not happy about this at all. I am uprooting my kids, I am leaving my community. I have to find a new part time job. He will be making less at least in the beginning so we will have to rent. We have to sell our home that I worked so hard to cultivate into a loving environment. I am all for supporting my husband, but I wish he told me he needed a change. This all feels so sudden and drastic. I’m due to move Jan 21. How do I cope with this? I feel betrayed. Lauren
