Setting boundaries with family.
Posted by By: Dr. Laura Berman on July 25 2019
Dr. Berman- I am the oldest in my family and I have never married and I don’t have any children. My whole family still lives in the same town, and I’m the only one out of my sisters that has a 9-5 job and a steady income. 2 of my 3 sisters are divorced. Our parents are off having a great time in their retirement. I love my nieces and nephews but I am constantly being asked to take the kids or babysit so my sisters can go on dates and meet new men. My other sister who is still married- she and her husband never have any money for babysitters and yet they still want to go out too. I love the children but I never get anything back in return. If I need them to pet sit… they are always too busy to help me. If I say no.. It’s like the end of the world and I then they all gang up on me because I don’t know what it’s like to be a single mom, etc. How do you think I can set some boundaries because all I do is get suckered into being an unpaid nanny? Any help is appreciated. Jocelyn
