Moving in together...Things to consider.
Posted by By: Dr. Laura Berman on May 28 2020
Dr Berman- My boyfriend and I have been together for 7 months. I love him and he loves me. We have the same values about children and religion, and he is not into politics so that is not an issue. We are exclusive and have been talking about the next steps but that is where we are coming into some conflict. I think we need to get engaged before we move in together (I own my house- he does not). He thinks that the engagement will come after we move in. I am 35 and love the fact that I am independent and strong, and I am willing to lose that independence and share what I have built with someone once we get engaged. I don’t know if I want to move someone in with me without that type of commitment though. My friends and family are torn on the situation- on one hand they just want to see me settled down, but some friends say no way he doesn’t get your stuff/life/house without a real commitment. What do you think? We make about the same money wise, but he is divorced with a kid and I am not. Kimberly
