Discussing money issues with a friend
Posted by By: Dr. Laura Berman on October 05 2017

Dr. Berman- A close friend of the family has a 3 year old daughter.  She had a nanny but the girl moved away with her boyfriend.  My 17 year old daughter will be a senior in HS this year and she asked if she would be able to help out with the baby.  My daughter loves the little girl and is excited to do it.  When she asked her about pay- she told my daughter for 3 days a week/5 hours a day- she would pay her $100.  I know my daughter isn’t going to make a lot of money with a summer job but that is under 7$ an hour.  Most babysitters get at least 10-15.  How do I tell my friend that she needs to pay my daughter a fair price and that just because she is a family friend and my daughter is young, doesn’t mean she can take advantage of the situation.  Thanks, Emily
